Most insurance companies will not consider driving experience when you have a foreign license or even out of province license. Driving experience can be considered once your license is converted in a Canadian province. If you are moving to another province within Canada, you should request a “Letter of Experience” from your current insurer to have your insurance history considered.
SAAQ allows the students or trainees from another Canadian province or foreign country to drive for the duration of their student or traineeship without converting their foreign or out of province license. Visitors or New residents have 6 consecutive months to change the license with SAAQ. They are not allowed to drive the vehicle if they have stayed for more than 6 months and have not converted the license yet.
